Which labour laws apply to employers in Jaipur?
The short answer
Jaipur employers follow Rajasthan's state laws on top of the central framework, and the Shops Act changed sharply in 2025 and 2026. Since an August 2025 notification, shops employing up to 10 workers are exempt from registration under the Rajasthan Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958. Amendment Act 5 of 2026, in force from 17 December 2025, allows up to 10 hours a day, raises the overtime limit to 144 hours a quarter and requires a rest break after 6 hours. A July 2025 notification lets registered shops employ women at night with written consent, safe transport and anti-harassment arrangements. Rajasthan's general minimum wages, effective 1 January 2023 and still the latest official rates in October 2026, run from ₹7,410 a month for unskilled to ₹9,334 for highly skilled work. PF, ESIC, TDS and the four Labour Codes, with Rajasthan's 2026 rules under them, apply as in every state.
