  • Shops and Establishments Act (Maharashtra). Governs leave entitlements, working hours, weekly offs and the basic framework of an employment relationship for commercial establishments.
  • Industrial Disputes Act, 1947. Sets the procedural requirements for disciplinary action, domestic inquiry, termination and retrenchment — where companies most often face unfair-dismissal claims.
  • Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 (amended 2017). Mandates 26 weeks of paid maternity leave for establishments with 10+ employees, plus creche obligations at 50+ employees.
  • Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972. Applies once a company has 10+ employees; gratuity entitlement accrues after five years of continuous service.
